Description

Poster shows caricatures of Aletta Jacobs and P.W.A. Cort van der Linden as the Biblical figures Adam and Eve. The apple is labeled "Vrouwen kiesrecht" [Women's suffrage]. Additional caption title reads: "Dr. Evaletta Jacobs biedt, Mr. Adam Cort den appel, en hij hapt" [Dr. Evaletta Jacobs offers the apple and Mr. Adam Cort snaps it up]. Aletta Jacobs was the first woman to graduate from a Dutch university and the Netherlands first female physician. Cort van der Linden was a liberal prime minister of the Netherlands from 1913-1918. Women did not gain full voting rights in the Netherlands until 1919.
