Description

Poster shows an old woman with "Tweede Kamer" [Second chamber] labeled on her skirt as she drags a large, strong dog by his collar labeled "Treub" from a courtyard filled will other smaller and exotic dogs. Above the courtyard gate is a sign "Asyl voor Schoothondjes 'Nederland'" [Netherlands Asylum for Lap-Dogs]. Other dogs in the courtyard are labeled "Cort," "Bosboom", "Postuma" and "Pleyte," all ministers in Prime Minister Cort van der Linden's cabinet. Additional caption reads: "Honden, die bijten kunnen, hebben wij hier, oook gedurende den wereldoorlog, niet noodig!" [We don't have any need here for dogs that can bite, even during the war!] Willem Treub served as finance minister under Cort van der Linden and stepped down on January 28, 1916 after a dispute in parliament about reforming state pensions.
