The blade Shape is rather wide and an unusual shape which is called
Kogarasumaru,it is based on a 12th century Tachi named "Little Crow" At the end of the Edo period, there were just a few sword smiths who made Kogarasumaru blades,the best know smith for this style of blade was
Gassan Sadakazu ,This blade doesn't have the typical Gassan Ayasugi-hada .
It may be his work but I doubt it very much. Who ever the smith was he was excellent at his craft as images above show ,he displayed great control during the forging process & in cutting the bohi's in the blade etc..
Signature: Mumei
The blade is 100% flawless & in full Japanese polish.
Blade length - 68.2 cm or 26.85 inches.
Sori - 2.1 cm ,The blade has a MASSIVE kick back just like the original would have had.
Mekugi - 1
Width at the hamachi - 3.1 cm
Kasane - 0.8 cm
Era - Meiji era.
Jitetsu -Jigane looks to be a very tight Muji style.
Hamon - Niedeki Gunome midare and Tama.
Koshirae consists of beautiful Giabura string binding,
Menuki - Priest done in gold ,shakudo & copper
Fuchi/Kashira- Goto school style of Monks/ priests,lots of gold,silver copper & shakudo work.
Tsuba - Large iron Sukashi tsuba with tree & lattice design,This is a big tsuba.
Scabbard - Plain black lacquer with purple silk sageo.all in mint condition
