Description

Nice ww2 Japanese Naval Landing forces sword, condition is very nice as per images, just some slight damage to lacquer which was a common fault with these scabbards, mainly along the seams but quite minor, The worst most noticeable crack in the lacquer is not real big but is seen 3/4s the way down on one side, clearly photographed, someone has dabbed a bit of glue right down near the sword drag, it has a crack in the scabbard there & they would have been better off leaving it alone, you barely notice it anyway.

These landing swords are a shin-gunto with Naval characteristics.
An example is shown in Richard Fuller & Ron Gregory book, Japanese Military & civil swords & dirks on page 138 plate 199 & 200
Standard stainless Naval officers blade with wide clean hamon, anchor stamp to tang, also an assembly number & a couple of Kanji in black lacquer, very nice fittings & blade.
a very good example of this type of war time Imperial Japanese sword.mid to late war manufacture
