Description

ITEM # swd-52
please note the images do not do this sword justice, the camera flash & enlarging of the pics over accentuates all tiny blemishes & scratches ,to the naked eye the sword looks completely different

This flawless wakizashi is 18" in length and is in the buki-zukuri shape. The blade is signed with a two character signature, Kane Sada. Surface grain of the blade is itame hada.somewhat course in areas but nice all the same. The hamon is sanbonsugi, or three cedar zig zag in typical Seki style. There were a long line of smiths with the name of Kanesada, however judging from the two character signature and the Seki
characteristics, it is most likely the work of Mino smith Kanesada working circa 1724.
The mountings for this sword are known as aikuchi koshirae. The basic characteristics of this type of mount is the absence of any wrapping around the tsuka and also the absence of any type of tsuba. These mountings are very unusual in that they are also in handachi style / tachi fittings. The habaki is wrapped in silver foil while the menuki are shishi dogs matching the kozuka.
saya is done with crushed abalone shell with polished horn scabbard throat which matches the tsuka fuchi.
