[ s202 ] Dutch Royalty Damascus and Ivory Hunting sword
From my own personal collection- not phased if it doesn't sell as I struggled to let it & list it for sale
This was supposedly Presented too or by Dutch Royalty, i am not too sure if that is 100% correct but there is every possibility that its correct, this is a superb Damascus blade and Ivory hilt Hunting sword with a silver crown pommel & gold gilt fittings, silver monogram initials to the clam shell guards, the scabbard displays some wear to the gilt finish but most of the hilt still has a good coverage of gilt.
superb heavy Damascus blade with deep chunky engraving, blade has a few stains so not perfect, it has a Dutch royal crest engraved on the blade with some traces of gold gilt, the blade has what appears to be Eisenhauer etched under the clam shell, usually associated with Eisenhauer Damas steel, also a Clement & Jung stamp, not sure what connection this stamp has to do with the sword, They may have been the retailer of the actual steel, also an engraved makers name on the blade, I am thinking these guys Willem Pauwels & Boon te's Bravenhage are who actually made the sword to how it looks today.
The sword has a bit of an interesting history in the fact the sword was taken by an Australian RAAF airman (Jensen) from 36 Squadron at Changi prison whilst evacuating POWS just after the war, the Airman found a Japanese officer trying to hide the sword in one of the huts & confiscated it as you do. This information was passed onto me by the previous owner who purchased the sword direct from the vet's wife 30 to 40 years ago, he held it in his own collection till i was able to purchase it from him, it's been in my own personal collection ever since.
