Very Early Venetian Schiavona circa 1560-1600, this is a beautiful sword that I had put into my own personal collection until I decided if I would keep or sell it, I am still fighting with my conscience as I list it. So I have NO problem what so ever if it doesn't sell, ( I will also list my Mortuary hilt sword as well which is one of the best examples I have seen anywhere)
The basket is of the early style with very large pas d’ane and large thumb ring, just post straight quillon rapier style with one quillon terminating to the basket. The hand guard on the basket have raised relief mid point with design work. The cats head pommel is not existing yet, this is prior to it. There are no repairs nor breaks anywhere on the basket, it has stood the test of time very well, its all very tight with no movement in the basket or grip, The original grip is cord wrapped covered with leather stitched down one side. fantastic condition. 920 mm long blade has fine pitting all over as is 70% of the case with early European swords of this age, history has it that Venetian mercenaries were hired to fight for European armies,
