Samurai Katana full polish and beautiful Koshirae LONG blade
Beautiful Edo period (kanbun shinto) Katana in Shirasaya with Koshirae,fantastic blade , Itame hada with Jinie and Shinogiji Cutting edge is 73.32 cm (just under 29 inch ),,Tang is signed & the mei reads "Kiyomitsu"
Nice Sori of 1.06 cm ,Width at the hamachi is 2.93 cm
Wide at the Kissaki 2.01 cm & the Kasane width is 0.63 cm .
The excellent looking Hamon is Niedeki, Gunome Midare mixed Togariba, & its HUGE.
Two sword smith groups used the name Kiyomitsu. One worked in Bizen (present Okayama prefecture), the others worked in Kaga (present Ishikawa prefecture).
This blade is the latter made in Kaga. This Kiyomitsu group flourished from Muromachi period to late Edo period.
These smiths usually made swords with suguha hamon, This nakago has distinctive feature on the bottom. It is called Kashu (mean Kaga)-nakago-jiri, typical of this area.
The Koshirae/ Fittings are superb,They consist of a signed elaborately engraved iron tsuba,Fuchi kashira are antique & made of solid silver inlay. Menuki are beautiful solid silver horses which just look stunning on the thin dark leather tsukamaki over black same, the Saya is Kuro (Black) Roiro Saya, Both ends of the saya have been carved ,then wrapped in the same thin leather as the tsuka.
,sword comes in sword bag & has full oshigata line drawing of the blade done by craftsmen in Japan.
