[ S2 ] Superb Samurai tanto 2 sets of papers Koshirae and blade both papered
Very nice flawless Boxed Samurai Tanto with NBTHK Hozon papered blade ,The Koshirae(mounting) are also papered (very high rated old blue papers} Tokubetsu Kicyo Tosogu
Signature : Mumei:attributed as Hirotsugu NBTHK Hozon paper
The blade length is 28.7 cm or 11.29 inches with a 0.3 cm Sori
Width at the hamachi : 2.58 cm ,,Thickness at the hamachi : 0.67 cm or 0.26 inches.
The blade has a single Bohi on one side & 2 finer Bohi on the obverse
Jitetsu : Itame hada tightly forged with lots of Jinie and some Chikei work.absolutely stunning.
Hamon : Niedeki Gunome midare and Hitatsura hamon with a lot of activities with Kinsuji Inazuma and also Sunagashi.
Era : Kanbun Shinto (Edo)
The Koshirae on the sword is magnificent,
Fuchi / kashira fit into each other & hold the set together, The Kojiri & Kurikata etc are made of Oborogin plate,(not sure if spelling is correct) each part on the tanto has a beautifully raised up butterfly with gold inlay & highlights, The menuki are also of butterflies with gold highlights,
The superb Kozuka is made of Shakudo & depicts 2 old men inlaid with gold & silver ,the detail will blow you away,,the Kozuka handle is signed but the blade is unsigned,sadly I am not a good enough photographer to show just how good these fittings & blade are ,the tanto is a hell of a lot nice in person,completing the koshirae is a beautiful black ribbed saya that has the most detailed shakudo ,silver & gold Scholar / old man set into it towards the bottom of the saya.
First generation Hirotsugu was working at Bunmei era
This school continued to late Edo period.
This Tanto was made around Kanbun shinto period, Hirotsugu was a student of the 4th generation Tsunahiro.
This Tanto is in fantastic condition with a superb Hamon with loads of activity , A nice quality piece with 2 sets of papers ,worthy of any good collection,also included is a full professionally drawn oshigata of the blade .
This comes in a beautiful lacquered box with gold mons decorations. a very beautiful set.
