[ S458 ] S458 Civilian mounted Japanese sword katana Showa blade Kane Mitsu
S458 Civilian mounted Japanese sword katana , Signed Showa blade - Maker is "Kane Mitsu" its a 2-character mei, no stamps, 2 peg holes,
I haven't looked studied the blade real well as yet,if there is grain/hada evident it will be fine Muji hada,
The blade is in good polish, there are a 3 or so very small nicks in the edge, Blade has a beautiful very prominent & active hamon as images show.
Tsuka has been professionally rebound in leather, the tsuba (guard) is a superb signed antique Sukashi piece, I have not translated the makers signature, it is a very nice quality guard, way better than the average tsuba. The fuchi / kashira are also both very good quality fittings which depict Samurai. They look like Goto school but I wouldn't say they are 100% Goto school as many schools done a similar design.
The scabbard is in good condition, its finished in a rough matt texture with the fittings done in a gloss lacquer, I personally do not like the scabbard, its possibly showa era but may be more recent, very hard to tell as looking into the throat of the scabbard it looks very old, it is a perfect fit which is the main thing & appears to have been made for that blade.
PLEASE NOTE- The blade images shows quite a lot of small spots, these were old dried oil, I have since wiped the blade & it has come up much cleaner, none of those small match head size spots left on the blade now.For some reason a lot of my blade pics came out a bit blurred, I can take more if needed but I can tell you its nicer than the images show it to be.
